In Gothic 1 Remake, magic ore is money. The Old Camp barons control its trade, the whole colony runs on it, and you’ll need a steady supply to buy weapons, armor and potions. Here’s how to keep your purse full and spend it wisely.

How ore works

Ore functions as the colony’s currency — think of it as gold. You earn it, traders accept it, and your power level early on is partly a function of how much ore you can convert into gear. Unlike crafting-survival games, you’re not feeding ore into an upgrade bench; you’re buying progress.

The best ways to earn ore

• Quests first. Camp tasks and side errands are the most reliable, lowest-risk ore income, and they grant XP/LP too.
• Loot everything. Strip corpses, grab weapons you won’t use, and sell the surplus.
• Skinning trophies. Train the skinning skill so kills yield hides, teeth, claws and other trophies you can sell — it turns combat into income.
• Mining. You can earn ore directly by mining nodes, though it’s slower than questing.
• Smithing & found caches. Forged goods and hidden stashes round out your income as you explore.

What to spend ore on (and what to skip)

Spend on:

• Your next weapon tier — the biggest power jump you can buy.
• Armor upgrades for survivability.
• Potions (especially mana potions for casters, since mana only refills by resting).
• Trainer-gated goods that fit your build.

Skip:

• Gear for a build you’re not running (no hybrid hoarding).
• Anything you’ll out-level in an hour.

Smart ore habits

• Don’t overspend before joining a camp — some goods get cheaper or unlock once you’re a member.
• Bank cross-camp quest rewards by doing other camps’ tasks before you officially swear in.
• Sell to the right trader. Different merchants value different goods; shop your loot around.
