Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic have released a fresh update for the PlayStation 5 version of Gothic 1 Remake, aiming to address ongoing performance bugs and add new visual options. Following the initial Gothic 1 Remake launch, console players have run into various performance hiccups, leading the developers to prioritize hotfixes.
Frame Rate Unlocked for PS5 Players
The headline addition in the new console update is a toggle to unlock the frame rate. Previously locked to target standard performance modes, players now have the option to disable the limit if their display supports high refresh rates via Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). This option aims to smooth out screen tearing and judder, which some players experienced during heavy exploration around the three camps.
While the performance mode targets a stable 60 FPS, the unlocked toggle allows the game to push past that limit on compatible hardware, providing a smoother experience when traveling through resource-heavy zones like the Swamp Camp or the central river canyon.
Stability Improvements and Crash Fixes
Beyond the frame rate addition, the patch introduces several stability fixes. PlayStation 5 players had reported semi-frequent crashes during auto-saves and fast-travel transitions. According to the release notes, these crashes stemmed from a memory leak triggered by loading textures in densely populated areas like the castle within the Old Camp.
The stability improvements arrive alongside similar efforts on PC. Just a few days ago, the developers pushed out hotfixes to address PC crashes and lockpicking mechanics.
Ongoing Optimization and Community Feedback
While this patch is a step forward, the community reports that performance drops still occur in specific areas. The Old Mine and the swamp plains continue to drop frames during combat encounters involving multiple beasts.
