During Chapter 2 of the main chapters walkthrough, players must assist the Swamp Camp in their preparation for the grand ritual to invoke the Sleeper. This quest, known as “The Brotherhood’s Plan,” eventually leads you deep into the heart of the Old Mine to face your first major boss encounter: the Minecrawler Queen.
Defeating the Queen is not only a test of your combat skills but also provides a critical quest item: the Queen’s Pheromone Gland. Here is how to navigate the nest, defeat the beast, and use the gland to progress the story.
Locating the Minecrawler Nest
To find the Queen, you must travel to the Old Mine, which is under the jurisdiction of the Old Camp. Before you can gain access to the lower levels where the crawlers nest, you must speak with Ian, the boss of the mine.
- Locate Ian near the upper levels of the mine shaft.
- Complete his required tasks to obtain the gear wheel and clear out the minecrawlers blocking the workers.
- Once Ian grants permission, speak to the guards near the closed temple gate in the lower depths of the mine to have it opened.
- Follow the dark tunnel downward, clearing out the regular Minecrawlers along the way.
Defeating the Minecrawler Queen
Unlike the standard minecrawlers, the Minecrawler Queen is massive and cannot move from her central position in the nest. However, she has high health, strong defense, and devastating melee attacks.
- Watch the Add-ons: Several smaller Minecrawlers will protect the Queen. Focus on clearing these smaller enemies first so you do not get surrounded.
- Exploit Fire Weaknesses: Like most beasts in the colony, the Queen and her offspring are highly vulnerable to fire. Utilizing fire-based spells or spell scrolls will deal significant damage from a safe distance.
- Maintain Positioning: Avoid standing directly in front of her face. Her claw swipes have a wide arc and can easily deplete your health pool. If you need assistance with basic blocking and dodging, refer to our combat guide.

What to Do with the Queen’s Pheromone Gland
Once the Queen is defeated, search her corpse to retrieve the Queen’s Pheromone Gland. In the original game, players collected minecrawler eggs, but the Remake replaces these with this singular, potent gland.
After obtaining the gland, return to the Swamp Camp and present it to Cor Kalom in his alchemy lab. Delivering the Queen’s Pheromone Gland completes “The Brotherhood’s Plan” quest line, yielding a substantial amount of experience points and allowing you to transition into the next chapter of the story.
