Gothic 1 Remake Patch 1.0.2 Details NPC Buffs and PS5 Graphics Modes

Alkimia Interactive has officially deployed Patch 1.0.2 for Gothic 1 Remake across all available platforms. This second major post-launch update addresses performance inconsistencies, introduces highly requested graphical settings on consoles, and tweaks NPC parameters.

Before diving back into the colony, ensure your version number displays CL 169494 in the bottom-right corner of the Settings screen to confirm the patch is active.

Quality and Performance Modes on PlayStation 5

Following a previous PS5 update that focused on immediate crash fixes, Patch 1.0.2 (which updates the console client to version 1.000.007) introduces dedicated graphics modes. PS5 players can now manually choose between:

  • Performance Mode: Prioritizes higher framerates, useful when traversing densely packed areas like the Old Camp or navigating dense fog near the Swamp Camp.
  • Quality Mode: Focuses on native resolution and high-quality textures at the expense of higher frames.

NPC Balancing and Quest Polish

According to the developer’s notes, Patch 1.0.2 modifies NPC parameters, specifically buffing certain characters. While this aims to improve world progression, it might slightly affect the math in our combat guide and impact early survival strategies when planning best builds. If you are picking fights with guards or dangerous beasts early on, expect them to hit harder or survive longer.

Additionally, this patch addresses dozens of story progression bugs that blocked quests in the mid-to-late chapters. It follows the quality-of-life adjustments made in Patch 1.0.1, which softened the initial backlash regarding lockpicking difficulty.

New Community-Reported Issues Post-Patch 1.0.2

Despite the fixes, players on Reddit and community forums have reported a few new issues introduced with build CL 169494:

  • Water Mages Mercenary Bug: In Chapter 4, during the sequence where Gorn requests help to retake the mine, some players report that mercenaries at the Water Mages temple start attacking and killing each other instead of behaving normally.
  • Dusty’s Dialog Lock: When attempting to recruit Dusty for the Swamp Camp, players who have accumulated the required 100 ore report that Dusty sometimes gets stuck repeating “Not now” rather than progressing the dialogue.
  • Xardas’s Demon Dialogue Bug: After defeating the stone golem and turning in its heart to Xardas’s demon butler, returning with the remaining two golem hearts occasionally fails to trigger the conversation prompt.

If you run into any of these issues, you can submit a ticket directly to the developers through the THQ Nordic bug reporting page.
