The collapse of the Swamp Camp after Y’Berion’s death is one of the most dramatic turning points in the Gothic 1 Remake. Following the failed ritual to awaken the Sleeper, the camp fractures. Cor Angar takes charge of those who reject the Sleeper, while Cor Kalom leads his fanatical followers to the Orc Cemetery.
For players caught in the crossfire, this division opens up a new quest: Point of No Return. In this mission, you must help disillusioned novices escape Cor Kalom’s dangerous experiments. Here is a walkthrough on how to navigate the quest, deal with the guarding Templars, and secure their escape.
Starting the Quest
To begin the Point of No Return quest, you must witness the aftermath of Y’Berion’s death. Once Cor Kalom splits the camp and retreats to his makeshift laboratory, talk to the remaining novices who regret their decision to follow him.
They are being kept under guard, effectively used as test subjects for Kalom’s volatile concoctions. The novices want out, but they need your help to bypass the Templars keeping them in the camp.
Dealing with the Templar Guards
The exit from the experimental area is blocked by heavily armed Templars loyal to Cor Kalom. Engaging them in direct combat can be risky depending on your current level and character build. If you have been following our combat guide, you can use parries and timed strikes to defeat them.
Alternatively, since you are dealing with a tight space, using spell scrolls or pulling guards one by one is the safest approach. Once the guards are neutralized, speak with the novice leader to coordinate the escape plan.
Leading the Escape
After clearing the way, guide the novices through the designated exit route out of the camp. Ensure the path is clear of any wandering beasts or hostile camp members. Once they reach safety, the quest will complete, yielding significant experience points and potentially shifting your standing with Cor Angar’s faction.
This quest takes place during the late-game faction splits, right around the time you are hunting down the Focus Stones to power the Barrier-destroying ritual.
