A recent hotfix for Gothic 1 Remake has unfortunately introduced noticeable audio problems across all platforms. Players report that audio channels are piling up during gameplay, and sounds attached to the Nameless Hero are bypassing the game’s audio occlusion system entirely. Alkimia Interactive has acknowledged the regression and deployed an experimental fix to the Steam public testing branch.
How to Fix Gothic 1 Remake Audio Issues on PC
Steam players experiencing these sound glitches can opt into the experimental branch immediately. Switching to the beta branch follows a similar process to the earlier dialogue bugs fix.
To access the fix, open your Steam Library, right-click on Gothic 1 Remake, and select Properties. Navigate to the Game versions and Betas menu, and select publictesting from the dropdown options. Steam will download a small update resolving the channel buildup and fixing the occlusion issues. Console players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will have to wait for a full hotfix release, which the developers say is coming as soon as possible.
Crucial Community Bug Workarounds
Beyond the audio issues, colony prisoners on Reddit have compiled a list of common bugs in the current build and shared ways to circumvent them.
Lockpicking Progression Bug
Some players who rushed to upgrade their lockpicking skill reported that acquiring Level 2 directly without testing their tools at Level 1 caused the game to bug out. In these cases, Level 2 lockpicking offers no speed or mechanical benefit over Level 1.
To prevent bricking this skill, make sure you learn Lockpicking Level 1 first. You must open at least one chest successfully using your lockpicks before spending Learning Points to acquire Lockpicking Level 2.
Stuck on Scavenger Mounts
For players who have already followed our guide to unlock the scavenger mount, getting stuck on the bird-like creature can be frustrating. A common bug prevents the default dismount key from registering properly. Players have found that rebinding the dismount key to the middle mouse button (mouse wheel click) bypasses the lock and lets you hop off instantly.
Quest Order and Despawning Loot
Gothic 1 Remake’s quest logic can be sensitive to the sequence in which objectives are completed. This isn’t the first time quest sequences have caused headaches; we saw similar issues during our search for Chapter 3 artifacts in our focus stones guide.
Two specific progression hazards to watch out for:
- Focus Stones: Completing the sub-quests out of order reportedly locks some players out of finishing the main chapter goal.
- Sleeper Temple Shamans: When fighting the Undead Shamans in the late-game Sleeper Temple, killing them out of order can cause their bodies to despawn instantly. If they disappear before you can interact with them, you will lose the crystals required to open the path forward. Create multiple manual save files before starting this sequence.
