Gothic 1 Remake Launches and Storms the Steam Charts

It’s finally here. Gothic 1 Remake launched on June 5, 2026 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — and it wasted no time climbing straight to the top of Steam’s trending and top-seller lists on day one.

A faithful, modern reimagining

Built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 by Alkimia Interactive and published by THQ Nordic, the remake rebuilds Piranha Bytes’ 2001 cult classic with modern visuals and combat while keeping the unforgiving, hand-crafted open world that made the original a legend. You’re once again the Nameless Hero, thrown into a penal mining colony sealed beneath a magical Barrier, forced to choose your allegiance among three rival camps.

Strong launch numbers and reception

Early figures put the game near the top of the Steam charts within its release week, peaking around 77,000 concurrent players and settling into a healthy daily population. Player reviews landed at Very Positive, and critics were largely warm — praise for the atmosphere and faithfulness, with the usual launch-window technical rough edges noted.
