Entering the Orc Territory in the later stages of the Gothic 1 Remake is suicide without a specific tribal relic: the Ulu Mulu. Known as the “Banner of Banners,” this standard signals to the Orcs that you are a neutral party, preventing them from immediately swarming you. To obtain it, you must navigate a two-part quest line involving a wounded Orc slave named Tarrok and a hunt across the colony for four rare beast trophies.
Here is how to locate Tarrok, unlock the quest, and harvest the necessary materials.
Where to Find the Orc Slave Tarrok
Tarrok is hiding in the Free Mine, a key area located in the mountainous territory of the New Camp. When you first encounter him, he is severely wounded and unable to speak or assist you.
Before he will agree to help you craft the Ulu Mulu, you must find his missing medicine. The Orc medicine is located nearby within the mine, guarded by minecrawlers and other environmental hazards. Once you retrieve the medicine and give it to Tarrok, he will explain the legend of the Ulu Mulu and list the four components required to assemble the banner.
Gathering the Four Ulu Mulu Components
Crafting the banner requires hunting down four of the most dangerous predators under the Barrier. Before setting out, ensure you have learned the trophy harvesting skills from hunters in the colony. You can find these instructors in our directory of all skill trainers. Spending learning points and skills on skinning and extraction is mandatory; otherwise, defeating these beasts will yield no usable crafting materials.

1. Troll Tusk (Tusk of a Troll)
Trolls are massive, slow-moving giants that can easily crush the Nameless Hero in a single hit. The most reliable way to take one down is by using the Shrink Monster spell scroll, which reduces the beast to a harmless size, allowing you to defeat it with a single strike. If you lack the scroll, you must rely on agile positioning, dodging their heavy ground slams, and slowly chipping away at their massive health pool.
2. Fire Lizard Tongue (Tongue of a Fire Lizard)
Fire Lizards primarily nest along the sandy beaches near the shipwreck in the eastern reaches of the colony, as well as near the volcano. These reptiles breathe fire that inflicts severe damage over time. Equipping armor with high fire resistance is critical. Try to pull them individually using a bow or spell to avoid being cornered by multiple lizards at once.
3. Shadowbeast Horn (Horn of a Shadowbeast)
Shadowbeasts are nocturnal predators that sleep in dark caves during the day and hunt in the dense forests at night. The safest strategy is to locate a sleeping Shadowbeast inside a cave during daylight hours. This allows you to land a critical opening strike or unleash powerful offensive spells before the creature can react.
4. Swampshark Teeth (Teeth of a Swampshark)
Swampsharks patrol the murky waters surrounding the Swamp Camp. Because their movement is restricted to the water and mud, you can stand on the wooden walkways or dry platforms nearby and whittle their health down safely using ranged weapons or magic. If you must fight them in the water, keep your distance to avoid their sweeping bites.
Crafting the Banner
After gathering all four trophies, return to Tarrok in the Free Mine. He will combine the shadowbeast horn, troll tusk, fire lizard tongue, and swampshark teeth into the Ulu Mulu banner.
To use it, you must equip it in your active weapon slot. Holding the Ulu Mulu will make Orcs ignore you, allowing you to walk freely into their camp. However, drawing any other weapon or casting a spell will break the illusion, causing every Orc in the vicinity to immediately turn hostile.
